Stickershock

Goddamn I'm grumpy. Sad thing is, having a cigarette wouldn't help, which just makes me even grumpier.

------
The boy walked into the kitchen this morning brandishing the new IKEA catalogue saying, "I'm not sure if this is a good thing or a..." I grabbed it, whined, "get me some stickies!" and went page by page marking everything I want to buy. Its Georgia Sales Tax Free holiday and they just opened a big IKEA oh jeez, down the street from me.I like the kids stuff best. I mean, is this an awesome rug or what? $30 bucks. Get out.

Petri Cultures of Life

Judge John Robert is a thoughtful, principled conservative. Judge Robert has not publicly stated a position on the abortion issue. However in 1990, as Principal Deputy Solicitor General for President George H. W. Bush, Roberts, wrote a legal brief for a pending Supreme Court case stating the Administration position "that Roe was wrongly decided and should be overruled…"

“One of the most consequential decisions a President makes is his appointmet of a Justice to the Supreme Court. When a President chooses a Justice, he's placing in human hands the authority and majesty of the law. The decisions of the Supreme Court affect the life of every American.”

“And so a nominee to that Court must be a person of superb credentials and the highest integrity; a person who will faithfully apply the Constitution and keep our founding promise of equal justice under law. I have found such a person in Judge John Roberts.”
- President George W. Bush, announcing the nomination of Judge John Roberts, July 19, 2005

President Bush as demonstrated, in both word and action, a steadfast commitment to building a culture of life in America where “every child is welcomed into life and protected by law.” Pro-life citizens have every reason to be optimistic and pleased by the nomination of Judge John Roberts.

Pro-abortion organizations, such as the National Abortion Federation, Planned Parenthood, NARAL, NOW and many others are spending millions of dollars to sway public opinion in an attempt to derail Judge Robert’s nomination. It is vital that pro-life citizens in every state take action now to support the confirmation of Judge Roberts.

My dream ate your dream

Went to my mum's 50th last weekend - she'd called 7 days in advance and told me she was quitting her job.

So I bought a ticket, organized a little party, and spent some time talking with her about retirement.

I don't think she ever spent much time thinking about the future when she left my dad - she did it in a way that precludes alimony.

I don't think she understands much about what the floor is in terms of living conditions for retirees in America. No health insurance, no food, no housing.. of course this would never happen, but on the other hand, I don't think my mom would be happy being dirt poor.

So I got all her financial statements and I'm gonna start looking through them and trying to make a reasonable retirement plan.

-------

Been following plamegate for shits and giggles. TalkingPointsMemo and Wonkette pretty much give me what I need.

------

Going to Vote, Run, Lead GA this weekend. Not expecting much from the scheduled events, but am interested to see who shows. Guess I should get some business cards made up.

------

The boy and I usually trade dreams in the morning. Last night I dreamt of fish while he dreamt of cats.
